Foodie Friday : Mickey Cupcakes

This Foodie Friday isn't really about food, it's more about the awesome cupcake mold I got at Disneyland. It's a silicone cupcake/muffin mold in the classic Mickey shape. I didn't have time to make cupcakes from scratch, but I really wanted to test it out!

You can make 6 at a time, which means making a whole batch of cupcakes takes a long time. Since the silicone mold is a little flimsy, I placed it on a baking sheet for support.

I just grabbed what I had on hand to make the cupcakes. Be sure to spray the inside of the Mickey shapes with Pam or other non-stick baking spray. Don't forget a few short sprays to get the ears.

I baked them according to the box. When they were done, I flipped the silicone mold over and giggled it around to get the cupcakes to pop out. For the most part, they came out easily.

Super cute, huh?

I attempted to frost a few of them... terrible idea. Super hard to frost and still maintain that Mickey shape. Maybe a good drizzle of melted chocolate would work better. Brownies would work great in the pan. I'm thinking of trying crustless quiche next! :)

  2. Did you try using a bag to frost them? If you just barely touch them with the frosting, they should be okay.

  3. These are So cute. I've seen these before at the shops but thought they were ice cube trays..haha. I have a few silicone baking products and after a while they seem difficult to get clean. I think i'm gonna buy these next Disney trip. It does seem as if it would work better with items that don't need to be frosted like brownies or muffins. Good idea!

    1. I guess you could use it as an ice cube tray still. :) It is kind of a pain to clean, but soaking it in warm soapy water usually does the trick. Muffins would be so cute!

  4. Those are adorable! I have one that makes heart shaped muffins, but I've had bad luck with trying to get them out in 1 piece. :/

    1. Some of the ears got a little stuck, but I gave the mold an extra good spray of Pam and it seemed to help them come out.
