200th Blog Post: Big News and a Little Update

Can you believe it's my 200th blog post? What better way to commemorate it than to let you know of some big changes in my life (and subsequently probably my blog). It's still me, but my content may be a little different.

Life has been hectic to say the least. Sorry I've been a bad blogger, but kudos to you if you noticed. :)

As you know, my husband is finishing up his undergrad degree in engineering in just about a week. These past couple months have been dedicated to applying to jobs and going in for interviews. There have been a couple good leads that looked promising (one was a famous phone/computer company named after a type of fruit), but he kept getting passed over for people with more experience. It's understandable, but disappointing and worrisome all at the same time. It's been one heck of a roller coaster ride.

Then things started to look up- he got a job offer! It's in technical sales- he essentially meets with different potential/existing clients to sell them his company's products- all having to do with computer chips. His job starts off with an 8 month training program. In Texas. As a reminder, we live in California. :/

Since the program is only 8 months, it's not worth it for me to try to move with him. I could try to transfer with work, but it wouldn't be fair to try and jump back and forth. For that 8 months, we'll be long distance with the hope to meet at least once a month. We're thinking of doing little weekend adventures. Portland, OR and Washington, D.C. are on our list. As well as a place I know you'll recognize...

I'm excited about the job opportunity for him, but I am nervous about being apart. We've lived/been together for over 6 years; it's been a while since either of us have lived alone. We've become so used to having the other person around, so this will definitely be an adjustment- more so for him being in a new place, with a new job and no friends. :/ He's quite the social butterfly, so I'm sure he'll make friends quickly. Thank goodness for Skype and FaceTime. I don't think I would be able to handle it. If you have any tips/advice/words of wisdom, I welcome them. I'm sure I'll be a wreck for at least the first month.

To keep me busy, I've got the gym. I'm challenging myself to be more fit than him by the time he moves back home. Since he'll be in sales, appearance matters a lot, so I know he'll be trying to stay fit as well.

The job doesn't start until February, so in the meantime, we will be soaking in every moment we have together. We've got some exciting stuff planned before he leaves!

Thanks for reading and I hope I can get back on track (and stay on track) now! :)

  1. Congrats on his new job! I know it's going to stink being apart, but those 8 months will fly by. Your planned weekend adventures sound like fun! :0)

    1. This past year went by in the blink of an eye, so I'm hoping those 8 months will, too! :)

  2. Congrats to your hubby on his new job! Being away from each other for 8 months will definitely be difficult, but those weekend adventures will be awesome! If you ever visit Texas and are in Houston, let me know and we can get together!

    1. We should definitely meet up! I've never been to Texas, so I hope to visit at least once.

  3. Congratulations on the job! I have lived apart from my husband for 17 years. He's a truck driver and so he's gone 3 weeks at a time. We spend a LOT of time on the phone! If you have any questions, just ask, but I can tell you that we found a way to make it work and what's great is that after all these years together, I still get excited to see him and we still have a spark in our relationship because of it. Absence makes the heart grow fonder??!! :)

    1. I knew you'd have good advice and positive things to say, Karen! I agree that absence can make the heart grow fonder. I think it'll strengthen our relationship more than anything. :)

  4. Congrats to your husband on the job! I'm in a similar situation. My husband just left to GA (we are in Cali too) for 4 months of training and we are moving to Texas in the mean time.
I think your trips sound amazing and will be a great way to spend time together!

    1. Sounds like an adventure! I'm most worried about the weather differences (aka blazing hot temps) for my husband. We're spoiled by CA weather. :)

    2. Where in Texas will he be? We moved from So Cal to Houston 7 years ago and that first summer was rough. After that it wasn't so bad. ;)

    3. He's going to Dallas. I hear the temps can get into the 100s on a regular basis. At least he'll come back tan! Haha :)

    4. Ha! Yes he will. The good thing about Dallas is that it is not as humid as Houston. My first year there every time I walked out the door in the summer I would say "yuck! The stick got me". Coming from the So Cal desert that humidity was killer!
