Training Tuesday

Another week done already? Time just seems to be flying by, which is both good and bad. Good, since that means vacation and Disneyland are fast approaching. Bad because that also means I'll be running the Dumbo Double Dare and my training has been less than stellar.

Weekly Recap
Tuesday: rest (early work morning)
Wednesday: 1.5 miles
Thursday: 2 miles
Friday: 2.5 miles
Saturday: rest (supposed to be 5 miles)
Sunday: 6 miles (supposed to be 10 miles)
Monday: rest

This week really threw me for a loop. On Wednesday's morning run, I felt like I pulled something (possibly my hamstring) and it's no one's fault but my own. I have not been stretching and this was my big wake up call. My knees have also not been happy, they sometimes get really ache-y and feel hot almost. I'm guessing just over use?

I was also supposed to run back-to-back this weekend with 5 miles on Saturday and 10 on Sunday. Between work and life in general, I didn't run at all on Saturday. Instead of waking up super early for 10 miles on Sunday, Dearest and I slept in and went out for a sunny 6 miles later. It was so nice to sleep in, but I'm sure I'll regret it next week when my long run is supposed to be 12 miles.

To give myself a little more motivation, I printed out a calendar and wrote down my training schedule. It also has a countdown with the days and weeks to go. My goal until Dumbo is to do sit ups and push ups each day, along with stretching. I'll mark an X through the day after I've completed everything. I did this same sort of thing when I did the 30 Day Shred in December. After seeing Xs across 10 days in a row, I just felt like I couldn't skip a day after getting so far. Hopefully that same visual will help me. :)

How is your training going? Do you have any motivational tools that work for you?

  2. Oh goodness, after seeing how few weeks we have left until the race, I'm getting nervous!! I'm sure you'll be fine with your training and I like you, need to work on my back to back runs. I forgot this weekend was a back to back run as well. Ugh...

    1. Less than 6 weeks! I'm planning to stop for all the photo ops for the 10k, so I'm not too worried about having to run back-to-back days, but I know the 6 miles will take it's toll. Maybe you can squeeze in a back-to-back run this weekend to make up for it?

    2. It's possible. I was thinking about adding a back-to-back this weekend, though I have 8 scheduled for Saturday, so we'll see if I just double up on my mileage on Sunday or run my shorter distance on Sunday instead. A little backwards, but it might help.

  3. Sorry you weren't happy with your week. The calendar is a good idea, it always helps me to see it on actual paper and be able to mark off the days! I cannot believe how quickly it's coming and cannot wait to see my Bloglovin exploding with race recaps! I'm going to live vicariously through all of you!

    1. I'm a big pen/paper kind of person- I have a planner, even though my phone can handle all of it. It's nice to be able to see it all planned out. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures. Just think, you'll be the one writing the recaps soon! :)
