"Table For One" / Worst Day Ever

First, I apologize for being absent for so long. Life's been a roller coaster and I'm just holding on for the ride. I think things are settling down a bit now, so I'll be back to blogging on a consistent basis. I've been working on my Tinker Bell weekend race recaps as well as recaps of my trip to Italy. :)

Anyway, today marks the beginning of a new phase in life for me, we'll call it "Table For One."  I mentioned before that my husband, newly graduated, is starting a job that begins with an 8 month training program in Texas (we live in California). It's not long enough for me to try and transfer with work so I can move with him, especially if we are just going end up back here anyway. So we'll be doing the long-distance marriage thing.

He headed off on his long road trip to Texas this morning. We packed his little car to the brim and off he went. I tried to hold it together, but of course that didn't last long. I know it's only 8 months and we'll see each other inbetween then, but in the moment, it feels like forever. I have a feeling I'll be booking a plane ticket to see him this weekend.

We can hang in there and survive being apart, what with technology being as awesome as it is. And I know I can always pick up the phone and call or text him, which is more than some couples can do, but it still sucks. Our tiny apartment without all his clothes and stuff seems so empty. I'm sure there's an adjustment period; I just hope I get through it quickly.

During this time apart, I'll be focusing on my running (I have another half in April) and other hobbies, like cooking and sewing (I'm planning to make my husband a quilt). It'll be interesting living alone and being completely independent of each other, but I think it'll also make the time spent together that much better.

  1. Maybe not telling yourself it's eight months would help. Just count the time until you see him again. Six weeks, four weeks...whatever the block of time is in between visits. Don't think of it as such a big stretch.

    1. I agree- I'm trying to take it little steps at a time and I think the initial shock is the worst. Going to work today really helped though.

  2. Firstly, welcome back to the blogging world! I hope your trip to Italy was amazing!

I know it must be rough being away from your husband for that long, and I hope y'all get to see each other at least once every few weeks to help make it easier. You are so right about technology making things easier, too. Definitely get skype if you don't have it already!

    1. It was such a great trip! Can't wait to share all of my pictures. :)
We are hoping to see each other at least once a month, but I have the feeling it may be less. He's still on the road, but I can't wait until he has wifi so we can Facetime. :)

  3. BIG hugs! I've been there myself. Many times. It's not easy, but you will get through this. And I'd sign up for an airlines frequent flier credit card asap! lol Southwest has some great promos. Hang in there Kim!

    1. Thank you, Patty! I keep telling myself that tons of other couples go through this and I have it way easy (major kudos to military families). I've been eyeing the Southwest card- also great for flights to Disneyland. :)

  4. Hugs! It's rough, but at least you will be able to have contact with him often! If I couldn't talk to my husband at least once a day I think I would go crazy.

    1. Skype/FaceTime has been a life saver. It's really helped being able to "see" each other.
