Happy Birthday, Disneyland!

"To all who come to this happy place: Welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America with the hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world."
- Walt Disney, July 17th, 1955

My friends and I gave a little nod to Disneyland's special day at the D23 Scavenger Hunt in 2010. :)

Training Tuesday

This was me on Saturday after 6 days in a row of work.

This past week of work has been long. Probably one of the longest weeks ever. My boss was on a much deserved vacation, which left me in charge. It's nice that I am trusted enough with that kind of responsibility, but it's also a huge weight to carry. And it meant that I had to be there open to close. Every day. Needless to say, my alcohol-free two weeks ended early. ;) But I'm happy to report that things went swimmingly and I'm glad my boss got to enjoy her vacation.

As hectic as things were, I still stuck to running plan as best I could. I skipped Friday's morning run in favor of somewhat sleeping in before my 11hr work day. I tried to incorporate stretching, but didn't do any strength training.

Weekly Recap
Tues: 2 miles
Wed: rest
Thurs: 3.1 miles
Fri: rest
Sat: rest
Sun: 10 miles
Mon: rest

On Thursday's morning run, I ran my best 5k at 29:16, beating my previous time by 20 seconds. I was surprised since just a few months ago, I had to really push myself to run a 5k under half an hour. My regular pace is about a minute faster and my stamina has really improved.

Sunday's long run was a different story. I was already trying to function on little sleep and was plain exhausted, but I knew I had to get in at least 10 miles. I'd already cut short my past two long runs and with just under 7 weeks to go before the Disneyland 10k and half, I need to pick it up! It was a slow 10 miles and not the 12 I had on my training plan, but I'm happy I got it done.
Do you ever feel like this after a run, but were still glad you did it?
How was your week?

2nd Disneyland Half Marathon Info Email

I know at least a few of my readers don't receive the informational emails from runDisney for the Disneyland Half Marathon, so I've posted the one I got yesterday afternoon. Nothing terribly exciting in it, but it does say that the next email will contain your race number and waiver information. Yay!

Tink Half Flies Away!

Yup, the Tinker Bell Half Marathon has officially sold out, just two days after general registration opened.

It's not too surprising since runDisney races have only gotten more and more popular. The addition of the pink Coast to Coast medal and early registration with the Princess Half may have aided in the fast sell out.
Running the Princess Half Marathon in WDW and the Tinker Bell Half Marathon in DL will score you this beauty.

Tink is also only one of two West Coast races that will help you earn the regular Coast to Coast medal. Personally, I have my sights set on this guy!

If you are still interested in running the Tinker Bell half, there are spots available with charity groups. Check out the registration tab of the runDisney page for more info.

Do you have any thoughts on why Tink sold out in just two days?

Training Tuesday

*** First.... in case you forgot- general registration for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon weekend opens today at 9am PST / noon EST! Are you signing up? Maybe I'll see you there! ***

This past week was pretty relaxing. I had Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday off. Pretty weird to have so much time off.
I was also able to register early for the Tinker Bell Half Marathon weekend courtesy of my brother's annual pass. Originally, I was just planning to run the half. Then I added the 5k that I'll be walking with a friend- I've already promised her I won't make her run. ;) Then I couldn't resist the 10k. *shiny bling* I figured I'm already training for the 10k/half combo for Dumbo in less than 2 months and I don't think I'll be running Tink again in the near future (I want to do the other runDisney races, too), so might as well. I consider it making up for the past couple years when I only ran one race a year. ;)
I'll be earning my wings... or something very similar!

Now, onto the training portion of my week. Last week I confessed that I'd totally fallen off the training wagon. I put a plan into place with a short two week goal and cutting out alcohol (with the exception of the holiday). So far so good! I did celebrate our great nation with some beer... and wine. ;) I stuck to running on the days I planned, but my mileage varied. Over all, I'm pretty pleased with how things went. This was my plan to get back on track with my running:
Tuesday/Thursday/Friday- short runs of 2-3 miles in the morning
Sunday- long run of 10 miles
Monday/Wednesday- stretching and a few sets of push ups and sit ups

Weekly Recap
Tues: 2 miles
Wed: rest
Thurs: 6 miles
Fri: 1.5 miles
Sat: rest
Sun: 8.8 miles (best 10k to date at 1:01:00)
Mon: stretching, push ups/sit ups

One of my goals for June was to run a 10k in an hour. That didn't happen in June, but I've still been working towards it. On Sunday's long run, I ran my best 10k at an hour and one minute. AHHHHH!!! I can't believe I missed it by one minute! Alas, until next time. It was a great run though. I ran the entire time, only breaking at the 5k mark to eat a Shot Blok and drink some water.

How was your week? Will any of you be registering for Tinker Bell weekend?

Reminder for Tink Registration: New Proof-of-Time

photo from runDisney

As early registration starts today at Noon EST/9am PST for DVC members and AP holders, don't forget that the new runDisney proof-of-time requirements are effective for the Tinker Bell weekend.

(straight from the runDisney website)

Proof-of-Time

New 2014 runDisney proof of time guidelines:
If you believe you will finish the Half Marathon in less than 3:15 hours, proof of time is required for start corral placement. Please reference the Race Pacing Chart below for finish times and associated pacing per mile.

Proof of time must be provided from a certified race, 10K or longer, reflecting results after January 1, 2012.

A valid proof of time provided at the time of registration must include the following*:
  1. Name of Race
  2. Distance
  3. City
  4. State
  5. Date
  6. Finish time

*For example, Tinker Bell Half Marathon, 13.1 Miles, Anaheim, CA, 1/29/2012 – 2:50

If you do not have a proof of time to submit, list "N/A" at the point of registration. If proof of time is not provided by November 1, 2013, data provided is incomplete or cannot be verified, you will be placed in the last start corral. To provide or update your proof of time, you must email all proof of time data requested above to disneysports@trackshack.com. No corral changes will be made after November 1, 2013.

As a reminder, you will no longer be able to bring proof of your estimated finish time to the Runner Relations booth during the Expo and have your start corral placement changed.

Tinker Bell 10k: Officially Announced!

I hope you've got your green tutus and fairy wings ready to celebrate! The Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend has some exciting changes!

runDisney has done it once again- for the third time this year, actually! While there have been many rumors for a long time (see my post here), runDisney has officially announced the addition of a 10k race to the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend at Disneyland.

Unlike the previous additions of a 10k race distance (Dumbo, Dopey, and Glass Slipper) there is NOT a challenge planned for the Tink 10k and half combo. I'm still deciding if I like this or not...

The race weekend takes place Thursday, January 16th to Sunday, January 19th- the expo is starting a day earlier than usual on Thursday. The 5k will be Friday morning, 10k Saturday morning and the half on Sunday. Makes it easier for those wanting to run all 3 events.

The race weekend opens up for registration July 9th. Early registration for DVC members and AP holders starts Friday July 5th.

Pricing for the Weekend
Tinker Bell Half Marathon: $175
Tinker Bell 10k: $95
Neverland 5k: $70
Kids Races: $20

Price increase on August 14, 2013 jumps to:
Half Marathon: $190
10k: $110

Price increase on October 16, 2013 jumps to:
Half Marathon: $205
10k: $125

Would you run the 10k and half, despite there being no official "challenge"?
