Tinker Bell 10k: Officially Announced!

I hope you've got your green tutus and fairy wings ready to celebrate! The Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend has some exciting changes!

runDisney has done it once again- for the third time this year, actually! While there have been many rumors for a long time (see my post here), runDisney has officially announced the addition of a 10k race to the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend at Disneyland.

Unlike the previous additions of a 10k race distance (Dumbo, Dopey, and Glass Slipper) there is NOT a challenge planned for the Tink 10k and half combo. I'm still deciding if I like this or not...

The race weekend takes place Thursday, January 16th to Sunday, January 19th- the expo is starting a day earlier than usual on Thursday. The 5k will be Friday morning, 10k Saturday morning and the half on Sunday. Makes it easier for those wanting to run all 3 events.

The race weekend opens up for registration July 9th. Early registration for DVC members and AP holders starts Friday July 5th.

Pricing for the Weekend
Tinker Bell Half Marathon: $175
Tinker Bell 10k: $95
Neverland 5k: $70
Kids Races: $20

Price increase on August 14, 2013 jumps to:
Half Marathon: $190
10k: $110

Price increase on October 16, 2013 jumps to:
Half Marathon: $205
10k: $125

Would you run the 10k and half, despite there being no official "challenge"?

  1. Right now I am leaning toward no. I like my extra bling. ;) The only reason why I am considering it is because I want to do Goofy in 2015 and I think it might be a good warm up.

    1. Sort of like a mini-Goofy? I'm hoping to do the full marathon in 2015. :)

  2. I am just going to do the half next year. As much as I'd love to do an inaugural race, if I am going to pay the extra $$$, I want a third medal LOL!

    1. I'm thinking the same thing about the 10k. I'm planning to do the 5k and the half and the $$$ are already adding up. :/

  3. I'm thinking they will have a challenge eventually, like with Dopey this year. They are probably aware that the community is a bit saturated with "challenges" this year that they don't want to ruin a good thing.

They also may go the opposite way and only have one 10K/half challenge per park, DDD and GSC. What I'm curious about is what they are going to officially call the 10K? They can't have the same name for the half and 10K! That would be such a race faux pas! HA! Any guesses? I hope it's something like the Lost Boys 10K or maybe make it a Pirates 10K?

    1. I never considered that they would only do one 10k/half challenge per park. Makes sense though. I feel like a lot of the reason they didn't do a challenge was so that they didn't have to deal with all the "upgrades" for all the people who registered with their PHM registration.
I think the Tink 10k will be called just that. The Disneyland 10k doesn't have a special name (though I call it part one of Dumbo). I think the WDW 10k has been nicknamed Minnie because the medal might be Minnie themed. I do agree that it's weird it doesn't have an officially different name.
